Additionally, at the beginning of 2018, South Dakota Class A Baseball adopted and implemented a rule change on bat requirements. This new policy requires only bats with the USA Baseball stamp be allowed during play.
A one-year grace period was approved by the South Dakota Class A Board to still allow USSSA 1.15 marked bats during the 2018 season.
Spring High School (Bobcats grades 9-12) - All players must swing wood bats.
8u, 10u, 12 (Juniors, Minors, Majors) - Bats that were used in 2017 with the USSSA stamp (1.15), 2 1/4" barrel size, and drop being up to a -10 are allowed for 2018 as part of the one-year grace period. These bats will be illegal in 2019 and are being phased-out. In 2018, these can be used for all Brookings in-house games, Brookings-hosted tournaments, and the 2018 Class A State Tournament.
All new bats that are being made now and bats for the 2019 season will have the USA stamp on them. The drop can be up to a -11. All new bats being made may have different lengths and sizes but as long as they have the USA stamp on them, they are legal in 2018 and required in 2019.
14u (Bombers) - No changes for bats being used by all 13 and 14 year olds. Bats must be 2 5/8" in diameter and a drop of -9.
16u (Bullets & Jr. Legion) - No changes for bats being used by all 15 and 16 year olds. Bats must be BBCOR with a drop of -3.
18u (Bandits) - No changes for bats being used by all 17 and 18 year olds. Bats must be BBCOR with a drop of -3.
